a tour around the world...
To honour the diversity in the Church and our country, we would like to invite everyone to participate in a Tour around the Globe. If you are an immigrant, or a child or grandchild of one, or if you are native to Canada, it’s time to remember your roots, and share them with our faith community. The celebration will take place on Sunday May 26 in Jubilee Hall. Please register your country at the office, before March 31st .

hamilton diocese
168 anniversary
February 29th marked the Diocese of Hamilton’s anniversary! Having been established in the leap year of 1856, this is only the 42nd time in the diocese’s 168 year history in which the occasion has been celebrated on it’s proper date!
The diocese was formed on February 29, 1856 by Pope Pius IX in order to meet the needs of a rapidly growing Catholic community in Ontario. It has continued to flourish through the leadership of its Bishops and the faith of its clergy, religious communities, and dedicated parishioners. The Diocese of Hamilton and the Diocese of London were founded as divisions of the Archdiocese of Toronto. In a letter dated June 3, 1854, the Bishops of Quebec petitioned Rome seeking formation of these two new dioceses. The large population in the province of Ontario, in particular growth in the Niagara region, created an unachievable level of pastoral care without further support. |
