At the recommendation of our Insurance Company- Catholic Mutual Canada – we will proceed with water damage repairs through FIRST ON SITE – Blue Water *Pro Team because they are an insurance industry contractor that Catholic Mutual Canada has had previous dealings with. Catholic Mutual is prepared to pay the cost of these repairs This will be phase one, our Restoration.
In the second phase, our Renovation, we are planning to: 1) make the Parish Office more accessible to the public and parishioners. 2) make the Rectory, the home of the Parish Pastor, a little more private. 3) make better use of the office space so that we can accommodate a table with 8 chairs to have meetings with a family preparing for a Funeral Mass, a place to hold a Finance Council meeting, a secure, private, space for our Parish counter’s (the groups who prepare your donations for the bank), a quiet place for our catechists preparing instruction for children and adults in RCIA and space for office volunteers to assist with stuffing, stamping, addressing letters or labeling income tax envelopes and 4) in general, to make this Parish building a safe and healthy space. A Rectory is a priest’s private home. In our Rectory, we have a public parish office. Upon entering the Rectory we have, to the right, the side door to the Laundry Room, a door to the Dining Room, stairs leading to the upstairs floor and down the hall a door to the Pastor’s Office. Entering the Rectory we have, to the left, a room that long ago was a housekeeper’s room (still containing a bed and washroom) and finally a second door that eventually brings you to the Secretarial Office. With all these doors, we often have, through no fault of their own, people wandering through the Pastor’s private home. In our present situation, a person entering the Rectory has often gone astray, lost in the kitchen or dining room or walking through the Secretarial Office in an attempt to find a washroom. If the unused housekeeper’s bedroom and washroom were turned into the Secretary’s Office and if the present Secretary’s Office would become available for the activities described in point 3 above, we will have a much improved private Rectory. In 1995 Jubilee Hall was built, complete with a kitchen. The old kitchen in the basement of the Church soon became a big storage room. The St. Vincent de Paul Society built new cupboards to hold their current Food Bank supplies, however the old cupboards are unused and now the flooring material has become a potential health hazard. At our meeting of Wednesday, October 22, we will discuss what should be done with the downstairs room after it is renovated. To once more sum up the second phase, our renovation: Climbing the stairs, entering the Rectory, the first door on the left will be the entrance to the Parish Office. One small wall and a chimney will be removed. The washroom that now occupies the center of the office area will be relocated into the hallway to make it more accessible to visitors. The first door on the right which leads into the Laundry Room, will be closed in & dry walled. The Pastor’s Office will have a new glass door installed as required by the Diocese. At our Finance Council Meeting, October 9th, 2014, parishioner Gary Varsava was appointed “Project Manager”. He will prepare specifications for phase two “the Renovation” and begin the bidding process to get estimates. This is our opportunity to make our office space more functional, our Rectory more private and our parish more welcoming by serving the needs of our congregation. Fr. Franjo Šprajc, Parish Pastor
